Book 5 · a story about comfort

Panda Stays Close

Boom went the sky. Pad, pad, went Panda.

Rain taps the window, then the sky goes boom. Luna’s ears go down and her tail tucks in. Panda pads over and stays right beside her while the storm rolls on.

From the back cover

Pitter, patter goes the rain. Boom goes the sky! Down go Luna’s ears, and Luna’s tail tucks in. Pad, pad, pad. Big Panda comes near. “Panda stayed close.” Soon the boom is far, far away. In and out, Luna and Panda breathe slow. Luna leans into warm Panda and gives a sleepy wag.

About this book

Storms feel enormous when you are small. This story doesn’t ask Luna to be brave or to stop being scared. Panda just comes near and stays, and the boom drifts far away on its own.

It works as a bedtime book on a rainy night, or as a quiet read after a loud day. The slow-breathing page is a good place to pause and breathe together.
